Self-determination is the heart of American Democracy. Municipal elected officials are the closest to their constituents, and experience life in the same community. Local office holders are uniquely situated to understand and solve the issues in their hometowns, and voters go to the polls with that fact in mind. Legislation that preempts municipal government weakens Democracy, tears the decision making ability from the voters, and prioritizes partisan and special interest goals over local solutions. DMO supports local control: keeping the power to manage community affairs in the hands of community voters.
